The factory is known under the name of: FACTORY
HOUSE MUSEUM G. MAZZOTTI 1903 because it was
created in 1903 by Giuseppe Bausi Mazzotti,
who was succeeded by his sons Torido, Tullio
and Vittoria and, today, Giuseppe Bepi Mazzotti,
his firstborn son.
It was built as a family-run private artisan
factory to produce pottery.
It was originally called GIUSEPPE MAZZOTTI.
In 1960 Torido ( the founders firstborn
son ) divided his activity from the one of his
brother Tullio, without changing the name of
GIUSEPPE MAZZOTTI which evolved in 1988 into
GIUSEPPE MAZZOTTI 1903.
Afterwards, in 1989, Giuseppe Bepi Mazzotti
became the owner of the factory.
At the biginning it was placed in the old Pozzo
Garitta village in Albisola, then the factory
opened a brench in Albisola Superiore and in
1934 it united the two companies near the Sansobbia
river mouth in Albisola Mare where it is still
an on-going activity.
Mazzotti furnaces have always produced pottery
concerning:
ornaments fot the house
objects of daily use
gifts for companies
unique works
art publications
Today the factory makes many different kinds
of pottery all in the old, traditional style
of Albisol; we should remember the well-known
White and Blu, or Old Savona ( this style is
characterised by castles, angels or oter mithological
figures painted with some trees and other drawnings
like plants and grass, in the background there
are some mountains and hills) which represents
the biggest part of the production.
G.Mazzotti 1903 edits again just a little number
of those objects which, during the 20s and 30s
represented the Déco and Futuristic production
( when Fillia, Munari, Gaudenzi, Bevilaqua came
to the workshops and made those works which
today are topic of research for many scholars
and collectors who could appreciate their value
as applied arts .
Furthermore lots of competent artists come to
the workshop and create the unique works which
are rather important in the field of the contemporary
art.
